Yearbook picture

Don’t worry. The picture of the SPJ members that will actually appear in the Mad Anthony, Waynesburg University’s yearbook, is both beautiful and serious.

Even though we’re a professional organization, sometimes goofing around makes for a better environment – right?

So, here we are – the first group of Waynesburg SPJ members (in all our glory).

Region 1 Conference

(From left) SPJ adviser Brandon Szuminsky, Chelsea Dicks, Sarah Bell, Katherine Mansfield and Nick Farrell attended the Region 1 Conference at Rutgers University.

Though it was an SPJ event, the members attended the conference to accept a Mark of Excellence award for the university’s newspaper, the Yellow Jacket. The paper received second place.

During the conference, the SPJ members attended a number of useful sessions; they learned about covering tragedies on campus, editorial cartoons, narratives and much more.

Quotes of the week

“You have just begun reading the sentence you just finished reading.”

“Without heroes, we’re all plain people and don’t know how far we can go.”

-Bernard Malamud

Unfortunately, I have been putting off my responsibilities of updating the quote each week; therefore, I will post two quotes this week for your viewing pleasure. Sorry for the delay!

-Sarah Bell, Waynesburg SPJ president

Update

The last couple weeks have been hectic, but good, in the Department of Communication. We only have three weeks of classes left, so everyone is scrambling to get projects, papers and assignments done at the last minute.

The Waynesburg chapter of SPJ is holding elections for 2013-2014 officers on Monday, April 15. The new officers will be posted shortly after.

Four SPJ members and our adviser will be traveling to the region one conference. The university’s newspaper, the Yellow Jacket, won a Mark of Excellence Award through SPJ – the SPJ members attending the conference and receiving the award are also on the Yellow Jacket staff.

Four senior SPJ members reflected on their internship experiences during a presentation last night.

More coming soon!
